Cast in amber, a lonely, scrawny kid returned to the Berkshires for what she hoped would be a healing journey and a way to say a final farewell.
What greeted her instead was more acceptance and love than she ever expected.
My family of cousins welcomed me with big smiles and opened arms.
My heart melted with surprise and delight.
The land felt new – refreshed. The trees had grown to towering heights.
The place that had nurtured me was transformed.
It was as though this beautiful piece of earth was inviting the little kid in me do the same.
The joy of being with my family remained until the very last picnic.
The warmth I felt is still with me now.
It was, truly a healing journey.
I’m certain more understandings will reveal themselves as I continue to soak in and process this beautiful experience.

This is so beautiful, Elizabeth. A heroine’s journey — going back home to land that nourished and nurtured, to find a larger sense of family and familiar land that has been cared for and tended — to nourish and nurture again. Quite a reunion. I love how present you were for it.
