MYSTERY

I have been having unusual experiences of late. They are difficult to explain.

I found solace in the words of the late, John O’Donohue in his book Anam Cara.

These are his words. They have helped add brush strokes to my mystery.

“It is strange to be here. The mystery never leaves you alone.

Behind your image, below your words, above your thoughts, the silence of another world waits.

A world lives within you.

No one else can bring you news of this inner world.

Through the opening of the mouth, we bring out sounds from the mountain of the soul.

These sounds are words.

Each person brings sound out of silence and coaxes the invisible to become visible.

Words are the oblique mirrors that hold our thoughts.

We gaze into these word-mirrors and catch glimpses of meaning and belonging.

These words face inward and outward at the same time.

In order to keep our balance,

we need to hold the interior and exterior,

visible and invisible,

known and unknown,

temporal and eternal,

ancient and new,

together.

No one can undertake this task for us.

Each of us is the one and only threshold of an inner world.

Each one of us is doomed and privileged to be an inner artist who carries and shapes a unique world.”

  1. I have to say, on this one, O’Donohue’s words seem far away. All the talking, the depth, the poetry this time is, for me, in your exquisite amaryllis photos. Wowza!

  3. Oh My Goddess! These pictures are breathtaking! And they go so well with John O’Donohue’s words… I’ve long been a fan of his, and can hear his beautiful Irish accent lingering in my ears and in my heart. What a great way to start the day… the Mystery that it is!
