End of June 6/30/24

The heat dome persists, and the spring flowers have long gone. Looking for beauty is a challenge as we head into deep summer in the high desert.

Those plants that flourish are mostly the spiky things.

However, as long as it is warm, we will continue having new batches of bunnies and birds.

Remember the Tom Petty song, “Learning to Fly”? These little barn swallow fledglings are doing just that and chirping at the top of their lungs!

It’s hard to top the vibrant colors offered by the heat tolerant lilies.

The only way to be kind to our horses and ourselves is to hydrate and hop on early.

A friend works with her Arabian early in the morning.

The pollinators love the thistle blossoms.

This patch of thistle is foreboding to most, but it creates amazing texture in a photograph.

And this little handful is tiny. The wagon behind her is the size of a kids Radio Flyer.

Billy and Maise are not fans of the heat.

“I’m outta here!”

“I’m staying up here until autumn.”

Brother and sister trying to hide from the heat.

Cotoneaster is spiky and pretty.

So here again, are just pictures to enjoy in the cool of your home.

The next story will be images from the Maine coast.

Enjoy and feel free to comment
