My Silence 4/4/25

I participated in a class where the question was asked:

“Where are you right now in response to the current state of our country and the world?”

I became mute. I have been silent up until now. Afraid to take a position. Afraid of offending those who see these times from a different political point of view. Afraid that I’m not articulate with facts, just full of feelings.

I have proclaimed to be focusing on a vision going forward. A vision that supports my values. I still adhere to those ideals but can no longer remain silent in the face of such outrage.

I am-Shocked. Enraged. Angry. Concerned. Grieving for those who are powerless. In disbelief that our government is being led by an immature, undereducated, inarticulate, cruel bully.

What do I value? What do I hope for our future?

That we create a world guided by-Kindness. Caring. Fairness. Diversity. Protection of the vulnerable, including people and our Earth. Love. Curiosity. Compassion. Honesty. Community. Respect. And making room for people seeking a better life.

What do I see? International aid cutoff for the vulnerable. Government employees summarily terminated. Closing the Consumer Protection Bureau. Abuse of Judiciary power.

Removal of books honoring women, race, diversity in all military schools and on the Arlington National website. Recognition of only two genders.

Encouraging fracking and oil drilling in sensitive areas and parks. The Bible as required teaching in school. NIH funds being frozen. Threats to Medicare and Medicaid. Tariffs that make no sense, to name a few!
