two Donkeys – a love story

Preface:

I have used this web journal to record my deepening journey into self-knowledge. Interspersed with these tales, my camera and I have had many experiences of pure fun and laughter.

During the time they lived close to me, I took every possible opportunity to capture the antics of two delightful donkeys.

This month, with the extreme heat and wildfire smoke, it is great to stay inside to revisit the photos and adventures I had with my friend Carol and these goofy, woolly critters.

Context:

Susie and her husband had two horses on their country property which included a beautiful barn complete with a chandelier! My friend Carol, their barn manager extraordinaire, added her horse to round out the equine population.

There was one stall left. Both Susie and Carol have huge hearts. They went to a shelter and adopted two rescued donkeys. Little did they guess how much joy these goofballs would offer all of us.

They named them Styx and Louie. Their previous lives were not so great. Louie had a mangled ear and Styx, although bigger, had been roughly treated and was quite shy.

Their arrival was the beginning of my love affair with these playful, loveable little beings.

It is a big job caring for five munching, manure making equines but when chores were finished, Carol shared some of her ‘donkey play time’ with me.

Stories to follow………..
