Last December, those of us of a certain age celebrated our friend Judy’s 85th birthday. On May 19th, she passed away, suddenly in the night. Attaining this many years and still riding our horses is a feat worthy of celebration.
I am so glad we did.

The next day, after learning of her death ………
I left the barn in shock.
Beside the dirt road,
the pasture to the east was
blanketed with black birds.
As I approached the small flock
they lifted as one and circled
in perfect, flowing synchronicity.
There was one white bird among them.
All the wings murmured as one body
then departed for
a destination unknown.

I trust she is cantering joyfully in another dimension.
