Last December, those of us of a certain age celebrated our friend Judy’s 85th birthday. On May 19th, she passed away, suddenly in the night. Attaining this many years and still riding our horses is a feat worthy of celebration.
I am so glad we did.

The next day, after learning of her death ………
I left the barn in shock.
Beside the dirt road,
the pasture to the east was
blanketed with black birds.
As I approached the small flock
they lifted as one and circled
in perfect, flowing synchronicity.
There was one white bird among them.
All the wings murmured as one body
then departed for
a destination unknown.

I trust she is cantering joyfully in another dimension.
what a lovely tribute to Judy🌺❤️

A finely crafted tribute to an adventurous soul who measured the pulse of life in synchronicity with her animal companion’s search for freedom and the open horizon.

Thanks, Bill. Judy was a shy yet courageous woman. Her horse, Hemingway was an off-the-track-thoroughbred, a real handful and she took him on anyway.

Another reason the match was perfect; Hemingway was my favorite author

To follow up on your beautiful poetic tribute to Judy with a line from one of my Christmas newsletters recalling a Marine Corps veteran who so loved Horse Hill she kicked the butt of a county supervisor so today young girls can race their steeds across these leonine hills, hair and manes streaming in the wind.
